Biography
Hatice Karahan received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Boğaziçi University in Management and Economics, respectively. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Economics at Syracuse University, where she also conducted research for the Center for Policy Research. After returning to Türkiye, she served as an advisor at the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and worked as an economic consultant at leading business organizations including the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM), the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEİK), and the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO). She joined Istanbul Medipol University in 2015 as the founding head of the Department of Economics and Finance. In 2017, Dr. Karahan was appointed as Senior Economic Advisor to the President of Türkiye. Between 2021 and 2023, she was a visiting scholar of economics at Harvard University and Columbia University, respectively.
Dr. Karahan was appointed as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye in July 2023. Her portfolio includes payment systems and financial technologies, data governance and statistics, structural economic research, and investor relations and international organizations. She is also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee.
